loki_update problem... (tribes2)

//I just installed Tribes2 on redhat9. When I run, loki_update I get this:

[root@shoxbox gamefiles]# loki_update
Searching for installed products... done!

Gtk-WARNING **: GModule initialization check failed: Gtk+ version too old (micro mismatch)

//So I figured... Why not just manually update it?
//I then downloaded 1.0.13 and tried to install it...

[root@shoxbox gamefiles]# ls

//Oh great.... :*( Now I can't update the updater? So to get around this to be able to update my tribes2 I manually downloaded it and tried to install.... here's the bullshit:

[root@shoxbox gamefiles]# ls

[root@shoxbox gamefiles]# sh tribes2*

You'll have to search for a patch.

I've upgraded to glibc-2.3.2-27.9 and now the manual update for the Loki-update tool works ...but the update for the games doesn't
It dies with the same error on line 60 in the update.sh script.

I've taken my old installation on a redhat 8.0 (/usr/local/games/tribes2/* ) and copied directly on my redhat9.0 and did the same for /home/<user>/.loki/* it work great now!! ...but still no sound

I've modifed my /home/<user>/.loki//tribes2/base/prefs/ClientPrefs.cs

from $pref::Audio::activeDriver = "default";
to $pref::Audio::activeDriver = "OpenAL";

and

from $pref::Audio::drivers = "Miles";
to $pref::Audio::drivers = "OpenAL";

...on redhat 8.0 works great on redhat 9.0 doesn't

Tribes2 is a great game it will pay back any effort

Ive got the same problem as Juky, I downloaded the patch but when I try to run it I always get that
./update.sh: line 60: 7045 Segmentation fault loki_patch --verify patch.dat
error

worst part is I had it working on this install before I uninstalled it so I could have a clean install of tribes2 without all the various scripts I added I wonder if this prob has anything to do with running swaret to update my packages....

I know loki went outta business. I know icculus is still working on loki_update.

What I'm not sure about is why it's our only option if nobody is going to support it.

to do it with this stupid loki_update garbage if I remember right. You need to run the .run file with an --extract flag and cntrl-c outta it so you have it as the build files. Then patch update.sh to something that supports glibc-2.3 and then run patched update.sh.

Or the powers that be could release control of the damn patch's so we can put patch files that are compatable with glibc-2.3 like ut2003 has on the mirrors. Or just give us the damn tarbals so we can extract the updated files over the old ones.

But apperantly somebody wants to see all this hard work go to waste.

Tonight I finished installing a T2 server. during the installation I've met the same update problem, here follow my work around:

Forget the Loki_Update software, it download his own update, v1.0.12, but there is no more .sig file for this version si it cannot be applied. I wasn't able to get the v1.0.13 (current) compiled on my system (Linux red hat 9+ 2.4.20-27.9 i686 athlon i386 GNU/Linux), it seems it needs glibc-2.1, while I have glibc-2.3.2-27.9.7.

So I download the last T2 patch (tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run). Execute it with --keep, it will create tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86 dir.
Then I downloaded the current loki_patch source v1.01, compiled it (compiled also the xdelta-1.1.1, it is in the libs dir, into the loki_patch pakage). then copied the resulting "loki_patch" file, into tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86/bin/Linux/x86/ over the existing one.

cd to tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86/ and type "sh update.sh", it should work now.

But...

This is an OVERsimplified version of what i did to get the sistem work, and I did it a couple of days ago, so it is possible I forgot something important, like coping other files into the loki_patch-1.0.1 dir from the setupdb-1.0.2 (another pakage from loki) to get it compiled.

It worked for the Tribes 2 server, I've not tryed it for the client version.

The resuting tribes2 installationt still crash on my system, but it works on my server (Linux red hat 8 2.4.18-14 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux)

I hope this can be of any help for you.

possible solution for you guys

I was running into the same problems as you guys, got it to work but now I have no sound I think its an audigy2 support problem.
This worked for me. I'm running redhate 9 with the latest kernel.
I followed the above steps by extracting the latest patch package with the tag --keep.
This created the directory tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.
I then edited the update.sh and commented out lines 55-60 by putting a # infront of it.
It allowed me to update the patch. When I ran tribes2 the next time it tried to do all the funky loki-update stuff, but it didn't find anything and proceeded along to work. i was able to connect to servers and play but unfortunatly with no sound.
Hope this works for you guys. don't waste your time with loki-update tool.
Maybe some of you can help me with my sound problem.

Ive found a fix for this problem. It seems the loki_patch in the patch is broken.. maybe just because its outdated or something. so what do you do to fix? Well download from a ftp (sunsite.dk in my case) the filed named tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run

In console execute file by typing
sh tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86.run --keep

now you will get that line 60 error but no worries.. you have a newly created directory called tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86

Now cd to tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86/bin/Linux/x86/
rm loki_patch
type wget http://www.step-n-up.com/downloads/loki_patch

that will replace the old loki_patch file

Now type cd ../../../
then sh update.sh

and tadda!!! cheers!!!

Most of this information I gathered in searches. Ive modified the directions so that you dont have to install loki_setupdb and loki_patch on your system. I hope this works as planed or you will have to setup these 2 things and then copy the loki_patch file from your /usr/local/bin/ directory into the tribes2-25034-cdrom-x86/bin/Linux/x86/ directory. in my case it was a big headache getting these 2 things installed cuz of missing files on my OS or dependencies and the fact that I am no linux pro so it was a learning experience start to end. =)

EDIT: wget may not replace the old file. remove the loki_patch file before the wget step.
I updated the info in steps above.
