installing Half-life and trying to figure out how to use WINE

So I am trying to install Half-Life/CS onto my Linux box and I have been reading a "Howtoo" guide to doing which is pretty well written. The only problem is I am very new at this so I have no clue how to do half the things they ask me.

I will just start with my first couple easy problems: How do I write files in the "/usr/src" directory when it says they aren't writable? there must be some override thing you can do. I also don't really know how to access a directory through the terminal.

Thanks,
Luke

the guide is here:

I was unable to follow your link. However, Frank's Corner is a very good Wine how to site. There is a Half-Life how to here. There are also links to getting up and running and using Steam.

As far as the /usr/src bit goes, only root can write to that directory. Open a console, type in su and hit enter, then type in your root password and hit enter. Then run the commands you need. To get into the directory (still as root) type in cd /path/to/the/directory - it's the same command as in Windows, except Linux uses forward slashes (/) and Windows uses back slashes (\). But your best bet is to follow the Frank's Corner instructions - they are always straightforward.

I think he forgot an l (thats an L, not an I) before the hl bit. Anyway, are you trying to install by RPM or source? My guess is source RPM. Try using the regular source instead.

PS: Which version of Wine are you using?
