Half life screen distortion?


i finnaly got my half life to work, thank god. but i have this problem where the screen gets distorted and looks as if there are like 7 differen't coppies of the menu. This also happens in the quake 3 demo for linux. anyone got any idea how to fix it?

someone said to me it might be a gl or driver problem. I changed the driver from nvidia to vesa and it worked. what should i do? keep vesa and try to run open gl? or try to fix the nvidia problem?
