Unhappy Doom Legacy

I have downloaded version 1.42 from the website.

I can run lxldoom no problems. When I add -opengl get the error :

Error: The version of the renderer doesn't match the version of the executable
Be sure you have installed Doom Legacy properly.

So I tried :./lsdldoom

error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_mixer-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Any ideas?

Hi bungle_42!!!

As far as I know, you cannot run the option -opengl with lxldoom, only with lsdldoom. You need to install an extra package called sdl-mixer to get it to work. I don't know which distribution you are using, but if it's an rpm-based one, you can easily get that package from here:

http://rpm.pbone.net/

You can also find it at SDL's page:

http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/

in the case you are using a non-rpm-based distro I also needed that package when using Debian. Hopefully it's going to work nice after you install that package...

Good luck and happy gaming!

Hey man cool! Congratulations . Yeah, I know what you mean, that scary feeling of wandering endless dark corridors with odd creatures trying to bite you is gone. Hopefully Doom 3 will kick arses . I know that it's also possible to play Quake 1 with a newer engine as Legacy, but I cannot remember the name

Still, there's an even cooler engine then Legacy to play doom, called jDoom. It has been ported to Linux, but I could never get it to run, but take a look at this shot:

I am used to run jDoom in Windows and, with high quality textures and real 3D Models, the game kicks, and kicks well .
