Can't get WoW running

CPU: Athlon 64 4800+
GFX: Ati Radeon X1800
Sound: SBLive 24-bit
Distro: Ubuntu 6.06
Newest Cedega version
Wine 0.9.22
Using the proprietary Ati drivers and have verified that 3d acceleration works (I installed the linux doom 3 and it runs flawlessly)

Having the same problem with wow in wine AND cedega with Opengl and D3D giving me the same problem.
WoW will start just fine, login screen > character selection but after I select my character and enter the world, my computer hard freezes right before it loads my character's model. The keys on my keyboard won't respond. I usually test by seeing if the numlock light will toggle, but I've also done the pound-all-the-keys-on-the-keyboard-when-frustrated test and that doesn't work either (of course).
Seems someone else had the same problem in this thread: http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...d.php?t=466849

But no solution was presented.

And here's another problem not relating to Wow:

I installed system shock 2, it works, but I only get around 5 fps making the game totally unplayable. I looked in game to see what renderer it was using and it said "DirectDraw HAL". How would I get it to use OpenGL?

I know this is more of a workaround than a fix...

But WoW is a supported app for the new version of crossover that's coming out.

If memory serves, they were offering the beta for download.

Thanks for the reply, but I already thought throwing down money for cedega would fix it and it didn't.
Not that your reply isn't appreciated, though.

Does anyone have a solution?

different gfx card, and drivers but you have verified yours work with 3D accel so should be very similar process.

Thanks for responding, but I've tried this already, I'm sorry to say. Anyway, I piped the console output to a text file after I typed "sudo wine WoW.exe -opengl" and this is what it spit out:

I have no idea what any of that means. If anyone could shine some light on this it would help.

Thumbs up

I hate to resurrect an old post but I may have found a solution to my WoW hard freeze problem.
I'm not sure however because its only been working for the past hour. The issue, I think, lies within a file permission problem somewhere in the .wine and .cedega directories. I have no idea where because I just took a shot in the dark and did a chmod 777 (not sure that's a good idea, but I wanted WoW working) on both directories. Now it works in both wine and cedega.

Angry

Nevermind, all it took was a reboot to smash my hopes to pieces again. This is getting really frustrating.
