Originally posted by madskillz could someonename some really good linux 3d games? not necessarily ports for linux, but linux native games
if a game is ported to linux, than it is native, the only other way is to do it through a windows emulator such as wine or wineX
back to you question, my personal favorite is quake 3, but others would say enemy teritory (thats free). america's army is a good realistic shooter (also free) and all three unreal tournaments run natively in linux (some better than others).
anyone care to supliment my list
oh yea, there are countless opensource games, but as most would agree, comerical games tend to be more high quality with more single player game play.
but why doesnt quake 2 work, it probably gives errors and I tell you, we can fix them.
and quake 3 is prety old, what kind of video card do you have that cant run quake 3?
Wait the is that Intel Extreme onboard graphics? I had one of those on my board it was 865 Extreme Graphics 2, and every distro I had, from RedHat 9, to Mandrake 10, all came with the supported drivers. What distro are you using???

A good engine for running Doom would be: http://prboom.sourceforge.net
You can download the Quake ][ port from: ftp://ftp.idsoftware.co,
However, you do need the original data files (the stuff you paid for) to run the game(s).

Theres a demo of Quake 2 on fileplanet.com, and for Doom, you can download a free data file (not the official one) from here: http://freedoom.sourceforge.net
Originally posted by madskillz well i havent actually bought these games...so any links to the demos?
man, stop the link mooching, try google.com and happypenguin.org
sounds to me like your gona need either a new graphics card or you cant do 3d games, I'm not aware of any 3d drivers for that chipset you listed.
go ahead and get a geforce 4 or a fx 5200, both are low end cards that are cheep but still more than adequate to play all the games that we have listed so far.
Originally posted by madskillz alright, i'll do that then, its weird though, since i know games like UT2004 ran on my pc when i was on windows xp...but i gotta upgrade anyways...
Its all about the drivers, I know it sucks, but hopefully some day the standards will change and all those windows people will be looking around for drivers , then again mabee not...
anyways, your gona thank your selfe a whole bunch, its a head ache to do it, but having a half decent graphics card is 100x better than onboard graphics, also you should go into the bios and reduce the shared memory after you install a new card, that way you get more ram after the upgrade.
