Will compiling LFS on an 64 bit distro build an 64 bit LFS?

Simple question really, but one im yet to find answers to.

All in the title really, but essentially will compiling on a 64bit distro produce a 64bit LFS? Or will I have to go for the CLFS approach?

The easiest would be to go with CLFS. There are some packages that have configure options specific to 64-bit (binutils comes to mind). Plus, you're using a multilib platform you really should have a multilib OS. "Pure" 64-bit OS have idiosyncrasies that will popup from time to time with packages after the base system is built.

Right...

So the CLFS approach it is, will BLFS work as normal after it is built or will things have to be modified for 64 bit??

BLFS might work, but your safer using CBLFS http://cblfs.cross-lfs.org/index.php/Main_Page. There are things like patches and seds required for some packages to build and install correctly on a 64-bit platform.
