expect -c "spawn ls" Problem

I am making an LFS system for the first time. I get a small problem while compiling GCC, Pass-2.

It instructs us to issue the command

expect -c "spawn ls"

and see if we get the output like

The system has no more ptys.
Ask your system administrator to create more.

While logged in as lfs user I get this message, but when I am as my normal user of the host distro I don't get such message. I've /dev/ptmx and /dev/pts with correct entries.

Please help!

Hi,

There's not enough information to point you to a specific solution.

Most important: Which distro are you using as host/base?
Did you check everything that's in the FAQ mentioned on the gcc-4.0.3 pass 2 page (this LFS FAQ)?

BTW: If you use the LFS liveCD as base, you will not encounter this problem.

Hope this helps.
