Some distro's have a wizard to use AD or LDAP or winbind for authentication. It is the users who authenticate, not the share. You might want to pick up "Using Samba" in the book store to configure a server in an AD network. If you use LDAP, then the free versions of "Samba 3 by Example", "Samba 3 HOWTO & Reference Guide", & Using Samba 2nd Edition will cover this. They may be distributed with the Samba package or in a Samba-doc package. The setup process is involved, including /etc/nsswitch.conf, PAM, /etc/hosts.conf, equating some Windows users & groups with Samba ones by running a migration script, etc. The "Using Samba" book configures samba so that it behaves as a Windows Domain controller and allows a member of the Window's Network Administrator's group to use Windows tools for many tasks.
Security = Share is obsolete. You are using Windows 95 technology in an AD or LDAP network environment.
