Expand an Source RPM Package

Is there any method available to expand a source rpm package? I'm trying to learn about rpm packages and source packages. I would like to see one already built. I have the source rpms publised by Red Hat.

Does anyone know how to accomplish this? I've done some research on rpmbuild and notice the following command:

rpmbuild --pipe --nobuild /source package name

Will the above command accomplish what I'm looking for? I'd also like to run the package and trace it during execution.

Thanks

Do you mean looking in side the rpm or unpacking it without installing?

if you want to unpack it without installing it

Code:
rpm2tgz package.rpm
Code:
tar zxfv package.tgz
Will unpack it in the current directory.

That's just what I was looking for. However, does it also apply to source rpm packages or just installable rpm packages?

Thanks

I tried you suggestion and found that I do not have rpm2tgz on my system. How to I acquire this uitlity? I also tried your suggestion of "tar zxfv packagename. This did not work either. Maybe you can't expand a source rpm package?

I'm going to continue looking for some way to do this. Do you have any more suggestion?

Thanks
