could not open default font 'fixed' when reporting a problem related to a server crash.. please send teh full server output not just the last message.
this can be found in the log file 'var/log/Xfree86.0.log'
XIO:fatal IO error1004(connection request by peer) on X server ":0.0" after 0 requests (0 known process) with 0 events remaning.

due to upper error message
xfree86-xfs.rpm, xfree86-base-fonts.rpm, xfree86-4.3.0.2.rpm wouldl reinstall.

upper mentioned package already installed in my system
typed 'rpm -e xfree86-xfs' in commandl prompt
failed dependcies message appear
xfree86-4.3.0-2

so, typed 'rpm -e xfree86' in command prompt

what to delete many rpm pacakge is inconvenient.

The problem you refer to is one I have experienced myself. I solved the problem by setting the FontPath in /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 to unix:/-1. This could well work in your case as well.
