Unhappy Difference between FBdev and V4L2

Hi,

I am trying to find what are the basic difference between FBDev and V4L2. I did google on the subject but i could not find much about this. The question is if FBDev was already there then why was V4L2 made.

thanks in advance,
Niel

FBDev is a driver to display graphics on framebuffer devices. V4L2 (Video for Linux 2) is a driver for video capture devices.
So one is for displaying, the other is for capturing.

V4L2 is a Linux framework (API's for video on Linux) for capture as well as display.
