Question Want to make my own Distro, but finding LFS too hard!

Hi, im new to Linux, and am eager to make my own Distro, i want to strip Damn Small linux program, change some settings and strip programs.
Well, my first choice was Linux From Scratch, i read a couple of pages, and to me it was a load of moosh! i counldnt understand how to boot a program, i just want to strip feather linux (or more preferably Damn Small Linux), change the colours and rename it and change some settings, i like the look of it, BUT... i cannot understand LFS, and there is no other thing i have found telling me how to just edit the basic things, like colour and renaming it. I just want to know the basics on how to edit colours and names,
Thanks aff1993

There's a guide to remastering DSL, if I recall correctly.

Failing that, Slax was generated by scripts that are supposed to make it really easy to make a liveCD from a distro

You want to make your own distro but you don't understand how Linux works? Boy, do you have your work cutout then...

I suggest you start studying, beginning with the man-pages of your distro.

Btw, it's really 'not done' to take someone else's work and claim it as your own...

what about doing something like keep the toolbar of featherweight linux, change the icons and startbar, change some of the styles and fonts ?
is that an easy process?

why do you need to make your own distro? any distro will let you customize the way it looks after you install it. If you found lfs difficult imagine doing the same thing but making it work on a much wider range of hardware 'cause thats what your talking about. making a distro is a lot of work and definitely requires a good understanding of linux. you should just install a good distro and start tweaking it to look like what you want.

Simply remaster a Livecd like Knoppix, DSL, or PCLinuxOS.

Or just pick a distro you like and customize the heck out of it.

For example I run Kanotix which uses KDE, but KDE uses to many resources on my laptop so I use IceWM+Rox-filer. Use my own shortcuts, icons, etc.

With over 400 distros too choose from I don't see the need to make more. Either remaster, customize an existing distro, or take the time to learn LFS.

I fully agree here, install your flavor of Linux and start reading! You're really gonna have to get an idea of how the cli and filesystem is structured before you delve into making a customized version.
