USB adapter

I have been having a lot of problems trying to get the internet connected using a Netgear USB wirless adapter MA101 on any distro for Linux. I just found a USB to Ethernet adapter at a computer supply store. I was wondering if I connect the wirless adapter to it and then connect it to my NIC card, would that work to get my internet connection working? In theory it sounds like it would.

I can not visualize how the lashup you describe could possibly ease your problem.

You are going to take a wireless USB adapter that you already can't get to work and plug it into a USB hub with a USB network adapter, then connect that with a crossover cable to your regular NIC? So instead of having one card to configure you will have three?

Were you hoping to get the two USB network adapters to talk directly to each other over a USB cable? This is not likely, especially if you can't get the first USB device to even talk to your Linux box.

Hmmm. I guess I was not clear enough. No, I am not going to plug the wirelss adapter into a router. I am going to plug it into a USB to Ethernet wire converter. A small device that cost around $20.00 that changes the wire by plugging in the USB in one end and changes it to Ethernet out the other.

Yes, I understand what a USB NIC is. Your idea still seems fraught with failure.

Yeah I think now it may not work eithert. I resarched the adapters and they lean more from converting Cat5 to Usb than USB to Cat5. I was just thinking if it could be possible to run rusb wirless adapter to a Cat5 port. Wouldn't even need a hub if there was a wire arrangemnt that went from USBb male to a cat 5 or 6 male. I think the only way to do what I am thinking would be to have two wireless routers and just use the cat5 connections on each. I was trying to avoid buying another wireless adapter, one that is compatable with Rehat, or perhaps connects to a PCI slots in order to have internet but there may be no way around it.

My understanding of USB devices is that you need to provide power and a controller. Just plugging two USB devices together is not likely to be fruitful.

Sorry for dashing cold water on your brainstorm. Hopefully talking it out saved you from traversing a dead end.

Yes I fiured that any thing I used would probably need it's own power supply. Don't worry about dashing cold water on my brainstorm, I've already done that. It occurred to me that if there was a way to hook up my wireless to the Cat5 port for ethernet, why make a wirless to usb at all. Why wouldn't companies just make wireless to Cat5? So It was just a thought, but thanks.
