n00b alert, so please be sympathetic :P

I have XP installed (yah yah, stop moaning, i like it ). My hdd is partitioned as follows:

c:\ 10GB primary with XP
6 GB free space
d:\ 35GB
e:\ another 18GB
f:\ yet another 5GB
g:\ and finally 35GB or something

What I wanna do is install SuSE on the 6GB free space... like I used to do with RedHat. It would format the free space and install there, but SuSE doesn't. I cannot select the second partition without selecting the first one.. which I obviously don't want to delete!

I just want to have SuSE on that 6GB to play around with it and get used to it.. and I want to boot it with a bootdisk.

Please specify your partition types.

E.g. I have 2 HardDrives:
HDD1 60GB:
Partition1 30GB: NTFS -> Win XP
Partition2 30GB: FAT32 -> data
HDD2 20GB:
Partition1 10GB: EXT3 -> RH 8.0
Partition2 6GB: not formated -> I want SuSE 8.1 here

Mind you: SuSE cannot resize NTFS partition, e.g.

On HDD1 partition1 6GB free space available -> Use Partition Magic or else to prepare it first (shrink NTFS from 30->20GB).

If you select everything to install SuSE 8.1 Pro it will take way up to 6GB -> You may need more space otherwise cannot install it there.

In the extended partition i have free space from cylinder 1309 up to (about) 2569.

So all I gotta do is choose manual partitioning, create an Ext2 partition (mountpoint: /boot) from 1309 + 25M, a Swap partition (mountpoint: / ) +256M and from the rest a ReiserFS partition?

I'm kinda careful... I just installed my windows and I don't wanna lose anything

Your partition choices sound good, sensemann.
After you create the partitions there will be an option during install to choose "mount points". That is where you will tell the install which partition is for what.
Your swap will be the 256MB swap partition, of course.
/boot will be your 25MB Ext2.
/ (root, ie:everything else) will be your reiser partition.

There are a thousand little things you could do differently. The partition scheme you mention will work just fine.
