I've been trying to install gentoo lately, which has proved nothing short of hellish, my interest in gentoo though has inspired me to look at more source based distributions, and one that piqued my interest is Source Mage.
I've been to the Source Mage site, and read a few docs, they have a variety of FAQs, but I don't really have specific questions. Just general curiosity.
I was wondering if there are any Source Mage users or ex-users that would be willing to indulge me, and just describe their experiences with and insights/opinions regarding it?
I've tried it before and think it is pretty nice source based distro. I kept it for about 6 months until my hard drive crashed and haven't installed it again. Sometimes for me the compile time just not worth it. Same with Gentoo. I liked it better than Gentoo, but thats my opinion. You also can get good help from IRC at #sourcemage, most of them are the developers. I did hear they're coming out with a new 0.10.0-test3 sometime soon, I may give it another shot since I have a completely new system.
Source Mage GNU/Linux is a source-based Linux distribution based on a magical metaphor of casting & dispelling programs, which are referred to as spells. In multi-tasking style, it downloads the sources in the background while compiling in the foreground. Source Mage's sorcery offers advanced package management, but retains the choices, options, and control not offered by many other distributions.
