RedHat w/XFS_1.0.2 ==> losing settings

i have a RedHat7.2 with the 2.4.9-13SGI-XFS_1.0.2 kernel and there's a strange thing going on:

randomly, after i shutdown/restart some of the settings in KDE/Gnome are lost/reset to defaults. Sometimes KDE crashes in the Splashscreen (ksplash) or Gnome doesnt start at all. I think the cause is that some files contain (at that time) some nulls in them, and if if delete those files (or just the nulls in them) everything works fine then. the files are: .ICEauthority and .Xauthority.

I read a doc from XFS telling that you may get some binary nulls in your files when restarting/shutting down because the data is written from 30 to 30secs to disk, but it happened even after i did sync before restarting/shutting down

does anyone know what this is _really_ about?
if yes, please help, because i cant stand it anymore (and i cannot return to windoze, im a PHP programmer )

thanx in advance

this kernel is from SGI and implements the XFS filesystem (the main feature is the journaling ...). I have an installer CD from SGI which you have to use with the RH7.2 CDs to install a RH7.2 with native XFS filesystem.

anyway, i put 'sync' in the halt scripts and it solved the problem i had
