Rep:
Nimblex Grub or Lilo
Hi again, I thought that I'd start a thread here because of it being partly about the distro above.
Please let me know if I am wrong in posting here!
I know that you haven't got Nimblex listed as a distro - but it seemed appropriate nevertheless.
NimbleX for those that haven't found it yet is a very small Slackware based livecd (with possibility to install to your hard drive). Bogdan the site administrator seems dedicated to making NimbleX as functional and attractive as possible. I admire such dedication!!
I have been working with Bogdan to sort out various small problems with getting NimbleX to work properly, but that aside, I think it has great potential!!
My problem isn't exactly a NimbleX problem but rather one that is tied to boot loaders and which one to choose. Please forgive me those who have been helping me with this under another thread titled "boot cd". NimbleX uses Grub.
I have an old p3 computer with three small hard drives just for testing distros. I keep trying to broaden my horizons to "what's out there".
I also been testing Absolute - another Slackware based distro more designed to be installed to your hard drive. They also deserve a mention here at linuxquestions!!
I have installed Absolute on my hda1 drive and would like to be able to have NimbleX on hdb1 and another small distro on hdd1 (not decided on that one yet). Absolute uses lilo.
NimbleX has a built in installer which automatically seems to format your hard drive with a small fat partition and then the main one with your choice of files!
I am trying to sort out why Bogdan has an installer that does that?!
Anyway, I want to know if I can have two different boot loaders on my system? If I can't, then is there a way to remove lilo or grub and have just one boot loader?
How do I go about making it work - keeping in mind I would like to boot a third distro in the near future.
I know what you are thinking - read about grub and read about lilo. My answer is I am trying to get to grips with them both - not there yet.
The reason for asking you guys and not just Bogdan is you have the best team of guys (girls) of any forum I have been registered at!!
I know that I will get there in the end and will be laughing about this!!
Maybe I should have NimbleX on hda1 because of the fat partition?
I am open to suggestion and not afraid of spending the time to get this side of linux under my belt!!
