New To Suse, Questions Regarding Resoution and Apt
Hi all I just installed Suse 9.1 and I am trying to get some things to work.
First of all, I installed APT. When I use apt-get, after doing apt-get update, it can't seem to find any program, at all. I try apt-get install zsnes, mplayer, ogle, nothing can be found. What am I doing wrong? All the above worked in Fedora.
Secondly, I need to get ZSNES to work very badly, and I need all the dependencies. It says I am missing SDL when I am installing from source. But I believe SDL is already installed. Is there an RPM I can install just to be done with it?
Another thing bothering me, my resolution is 1024x768. It looks like 800x600. The windows and icons are huge, even when I shrink them down, it doesn't look right. The window title bars are very large, so large I can usually only accurately look at one window at a time. Furthermore, I have it set to 24bit true color, however I am able to get 32 bit true color in Windows, why can't I get that in Linux? Is there a way to correct the size of the windows?
Is there a way I can tweak things like I could in Windows, for example, is there an equivelant MSCONFIG for Linux? Maybe strip it down a little? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Try adding more repositories to your sources.list

This was removed from SuSE after 8.1
The above link may help you out. Dependency hell. Most likely why it was removed.
It may give you a place to start.
