APT Questions


Have looked about, is it possible to get gaim via apt-get, i have downloaded the rpms from their website but at aloss how to install it, apt seems like an easy way to install things but it jus dont seem to be working, always the same message, invalid "gaim"

any help would be welcome

i don't know which distribution you are running, but i suggest you to expand your repositories list to get more hits for one package.
did you made apt-get update and then apt-get install gaim ??

as far as this goes..... if you are using debian then don't use the apt version. it doesn't work with some of the protocols. go to the main site and download the src files and install them.

from console you would use

apt-get install gaim thats it
apt will search for gaim and install, you don't need to d/l yourself beforehand I would suggest getting synaptic, it the gui for apt...NICE!!!!!

I don't want to give you a link to d/l it because I'm not sure which distro you using and don't want to screw you up more, posting that with you user info will allow better responses to you questions..good luck
