The loop device is a driver that allows a normal file (like an iso) to be accessed asif it was a standard diks drive (like a cd-rom).

how did you generate your kernel ?
either manually or with genkernel ?

you may have created a kernel without a loop driver...
try this "modprobe loop" as root.

if the ocmmand completes without error, then try to mount the iso again. it should work.

if you want the loop drivcer to load aautomatically at bootup, add "loop" on a line by itself to your /etc/modules.autoload.d/(kernel_version) file. then run "rc-update add modules default" (or maybe "rc-update add module default")
