Gentoo - Ati Driver Setup

Hey.
I cannot find any specific category for Gentoo so I post here.

I hope someone can help me with my Problem.
Actually I'm using Ubuntu/Debian Linux but I want to try something new with more learning effect so I installed Gentoo (2007.0) Linux beside my Ubuntu but I have a first big Problem... I cannot setup my ATI X1600 Mobility. Can someone give me a step by step solution to setup this card with the ATI Driver from their website. I tried some HOWTO's already but they didn't really help me to solve that.

Thanks for your help!

Have you tried this Howto? THIS ONE

it's basicly download the .run file from their website.

this one

open up a terminal window, go to the location of the driver. And then enter this command:

Code:
sh ./ati-driver-installer-8.39.4.run
Now a window should pop up and allow you to install the driver.

I tried that already but it fails.
So I tried to run every step of the setup separate and found out that the Control Panel install fails. After installing at least the Kernel-Modules and the Driver itself i typed "aticonfig --initial" and it found fglrx section and terminated...
But still I cannot start the X-Server. Its says something like "No Display".

Is there no Gentoo-Package for the Driver?
I searched in the repositories but i just found a 17kb file...

Thanks for your help.

I tried it again but this time with the new ATI Driver (release 25.7.07) and it looks like it fails when I install the Kernel-Modules. The Installation of the Driver and Control Panel was Successful but still no X because of the Kernel Modules... Nobody can help??
