Assuming the lower resolution settings are still in your xorg.conf file, you can probably select a functional one with the 'Ctrl_Alt +' &/or 'Ctrl_Alt -' keystroke, while X is running. Otherwise, in console mode, edit /etc/xorg.conf, and find the 'Mode' line and add an acceptable resolution.
