Debian debconf question

I'm curious as to how the debconf works.
What I want to do is change the text/questions that debconf asks when I i.e. run dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xfree86.

I've read about debconf and understand that it uses a Config-file (a shell or perl script), and a Templates file (where the actual questions reside).

But I can't find these Config and Templates files..
I have a customized Debian Woody CD, but all I can find on this is *.deb files. And these are just binaries right?
So where does dpkg/debconf find these files it is using during an installation?

I want to rewrite the questions alittle and then put "my" new debconf-files back on an installation CD (Debian woody). Can anyone tell me alittle bit about what I must do?

Thanx a bunch

I think I found the files on my installed woody system:
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xfree86.config
/var/lib/dpkg/info/xserver-xfree86.templates

.. now, the question remains where to put them after I've edited them Running dpkg-reconfigure on my system would prob work with the edited files where they are now.
But I kinda want them on the installation CD..

Anyone have an idea?
Do I have to put them inside the .deb file somehow?

please anyone?

...Uhm I've never used this option (think there's a separate deb for this job...), but you can "rebuild" your deb packages back after having installed them. When you make changes to the config files they are packed back into the binary, so the next time you install those debs they are already configured to your defaults...

That's their theory... I'm waiting to hear some results from you!

thanx for replying el_felipe

So I guess what I must do is:
- do my changes in .templates and .config
- then somehow rebuild the .deb file from the files on my box
- exchange the .deb file on the installation CD with my "new and improved" .deb file

I'll test this some time during the weekend.
Thanx again for helping me out dude
All comments are welcome.
