Blue Coat?

Has anyone heard of this distro yet?

i was at http://www.linuxpickup.com
and this is what they had to say about it :

Quote:
Blue Coat 9 is the You-Know-What-It-Is Linux Version 9. It is an exact, 100% unmodified version of the largest known Linux distributor today. Want a hint? OK here it is XXX XXX 9. There are two 3 letter words. The first word starts with an R and Ends with a D. The second word starts with an H And ends with a T. We are forced to rename it so as to not violate their trademarks.

Blue Coat 9 is the market-leading Linux Distribution and toted as being the most trusted as well! This easy to install and simple to use system delivers just about anything you'd want from it. Includes a wide choice of software especially in the e-mail client and browser areas.

Key Features:

* Linux Kernel 2.4.20
* Ximian Evolution e-mail client, browser and calendar
* Mozilla Internet browser, e-mail client, and address book
* Gnome 2.2 (default with Bluecurve interface) and KDE 3.1-4
* Openoffice.org Office Suite for everyday needs
* MrProject project management software
* Much more...
is this a true distro or a gimmic to get people to buy it. i never heard of this and just stumbled upon it .

thanks for any feed back

Hey narcussist,

That would be Red Hat 9 renamed. RedHat does not allow distributors to sell their product using the Red Hat name, so many online distributors have simply renamed it. I've seen it called Linux 9, Red Coat 9, Blue Jacket 9 and others. Most people will be looking at the new "Fedora Project" which is an open project designed by Red Hat. More info can be found at the Fedora Project Site and also from the LinuxPickup store.

Hope that helps.

yes this helps alot .. i am looking into the fedora project now .. i am currently using RH-9 and i am nolonger able to get the updates for my distro anymore ... Of all the distros i have tinckered with the Red Hats i found to be the most compatible, easy to configure and easiest to use.
I have tried Drake 8.1, 9.2, & 10. I only had any luck with drake 8.1. I also tried Slack, Peanut,Fedora 1, Knoppix, Gnoppix, and had no luck with those. From them not installing correctly, to not working with my internet (be able to connect to the net).

I am working on building a second pc now and debating on what distro to use next.

any idea would be greatly appreiciated.

Thank you

Redhat 9 officially hit its "end of life" a few weeks ago. That means it will no longer be officially supported by RH, and you will not get automatic notifications of upgrades, security patches, etc. If you've already installed it though, it will continue to work just as it does today.

If you've got a fast Internet connection, you can download many of the most popular distros at www.linuxiso.org Try several and decide for yourself which one you like best -- J.W.
