Question Blue Screen

[B][SIZE=3][FONT=courier new][COLOR=darkblue]
i am a NooBee so be gentle with me.
I think I have installed MandrakeLinux on my machine. I have gone through the configuration process and have set up and configured all peripherals
The reason I say I think, I have installed it is that when I boot I come to a soft blue screen that looks like it should be a desktop of some sort. It has a clock in the upper right corner. I can move the clock, make it larger, shrink it, park it where ever I like but I can not change the clock settlings.
However, when I right click my mouse a menu screen appears. At the top of the menu is Tun under that follows:
Iconifig
Resize
Move
Raise
Lower
Focus
Unfocus
ShowIconMgr
HideIconMgr
Xtern
Kill
Delete
Restart
Exit.
None of these functions is functional. I have tried everything I know with no results.
Where do I go from here.HELP

From that description I would guess you are in a window manager called TWM, which IIRC stands for "The Window Manager". It's the most basic of all window managers. I would guess you decided not to install any other window managers or desktop environments (such as KDE or Gnome) or else those should have come up.

You can move on from this point, or re-install and during the install choose KDE or Gnome to install. If you wish to move on from this point, post back so someone can walk you through the steps necessary to get one of those install. Be aware you will likely be using quite a bit of command line if you choose this course

I'll move this thread to the Mandriva forum so you can get specific help with your distro.

Cool

Yeah - it would be best if you just reinstall and make sure you select either (or preferably both) KDE and GNOME during the package selection during install.

If you don't want to do that (and I really recommend you do) you can select the 'Xterm' option from that menu and try the following:
Code:
su -
<i>type in your root password that you setup during install</i>
Code:
urpmi kdebase
And go from there..
