Yahoo chat client for Mandriva 2007

guys,

my mandriva 2007 clients suddenly can not connect to yahoo messenger server again. it seems they have upgrade their server. my mandriva 2007 is using kopete 0.12.4 KDE 3.5.6.

any ideas how i should proceed with these ? i tried installing pidgin but it depends on a *lot* of dependencies. thanks!

Hi,

Yahoo authentication protocol has been changed, you need to patch your version of kopete.

Unfortunately, the KDE 3.5.x is frozen, so no new patches from KDE.
You have to find the backport patch which solves the issue.

Actually pidgin doesn't have that many dependencies, because you can turn off many of them if you don't need them, and mostly you don't.

Yahoo settings have changed. Try installing pidgin or Empathy. There is a temporary work around by tweaking a few settings. Linux Mint 7 (i guess) did that coz for some reason they could not update pidgin. A google search should give you the answer. But remember, this is temporary. Update to KDE 4.X....
