There was another thread on this recently, but my question isn't quite related, and I don't like thread hijacking.
Now, what I'm trying to do, is log into a Ubuntu 9.04 box from a Fedora 12 box. I know how to do this through SSH.
What I don't know how to do is how to set it up so that after SSH login - or even alongside, if it's easier - I can launch applications from that SSH terminal and have them displayed on the Fedora desktop.
What I'm not after, is bringing the entire desktop over. I don't want that, I just want whatever applications I choose to launch from the terminal.
What I do know so far is that I can already login to Ubuntu via SSH.
I also know that on one of the two computers - I don't know which - I have to either have xnest or Xephyr installed. My guess is that it'd be on the Ubuntu system, but I want to be sure.
Thanks, that's useful - but after setting X11Forward to yes, the echo command it gives still returns nothing.
I think I might have to restart a service to achieve it, or just restart the computer, but I'd rather not do that right now.
This is done routinely.
On Fedora (with an X server owned by you running on the Fedora host):
Code:
ssh -X you@the.ubuntu.host
When you're there, echo $DISPLAY. It should be something like "localhost 10.0", where the '10' should be any smallish integer. If so, simply run your X applications:
