X server being killed on log out

I am having an issue that when a user logs out, x server, or window manager, seems to be getting killed and the system drops to the console log on. When I log in at the console prompt, it shows that I am in run level 5, which is set to our default in the /etc/inittab. Does anybody have an idea what might be killing the x server or the window manager?

How are you starting the X server?

Normally you'd have a login manager such as GDM or KDM/XDM which would normally appear when you log out of X, but if these aren't running then X will just close itself.

In the inittab file, we have this entry:

x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon

I also just noticed that there is a process that isn't running, or doesn't get respawned, when I get dropped to the console log on prompt:

/usr/bin/kdm_greet

I have solved my issue this way. In the kdmrc file, I have uncommented the TerminateServer=true line and have not run into this issue again.
