video conversion tools on linux

hi folks, i'm getting my feet wet in linux (some previous experience in sunos and other regular unix boxes) and need some pointers.

one thing i'd like to do is audiov/video conversion. what sort of software is out there for converting iso/vob/etc to avi/mp4/etc and back? similarly, what is out there for iso/wav to mp3 and back?

i'm somewhat familiar with the winxp tools for doing this, but i tried googling but couldnt find websites dedicated to this much like videohelp.com or afterdawn.com ...

Look at mplayer/mencoder as well as front ends for mencoder.

http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9124 - mencoder front end

Hope this helps
