Two question marks next to unopened messages in KMail

Hi,

I just setup an IMAP account in KMail, and I have a question about how KMail displays messages in the message list.

Why do I see two question marks right next to every unopened message? The message from the IMAP server is indeed displayed as read, as it should be. But I see two question marks right next to every message that I have not opened in KMail.

What are those question marks, and how do I get rid of them?

When I zoom in on them it looks like a keychain and a paper in the background of the two question marks.
