Kmail - have to scroll to see new messages

Kmail 1.9.1 (I've seen this issue in previous versions)... when new mail arrives, it does not appear in the message list until I scroll up (or down) to see it.

Any way to make it show up without scrolling?

I am having the exact same issue using Kontact 1.9.1 w/ KDE 3.5.1.
