toolbar, menu, filename text suddenly becomes illegible, especially in LibreOffice Writer

Hi. Thanks for reading.

I think I read something about this problem about a year ago, but I can't seem to find it--so if this question is answered already, I'm sorry to have overlooked it, and I would be grateful for a link, or to be redirect if I should ask this question in a more appropriate forum.

I use Mint 18.1 Serena.

While I am using Libreoffice writer, sometimes all of the menu text and filenames will go to complete gibberish. My typing in the document, in any program, is fine. The effect carries over into the file system, the command line window, everything except for Firefox as far as I can tell. It returns to normal when I restart the system. I can't tell what triggers it.

A screenshot is attached.

Thanks again--I'm eager for insight.

Maybe backup/clear logs then open libre and then check logs? See if you see anything funny?

Or examine the existing log files to see if they indicate something that might help identify some suspects.

This article describes how to check the SystemD log files in Linux Mint, including how to filter for them in various ways.

I would suggest that, the next time this happens, as soon as you get the system working properly again, check the logs for the time range during which the problem occurred. There may not be anything helpful in the logs, but that should be the first step in trying to narrow this down.

Thanks

Thanks, all.

Apologies for being so late to show gratitude.
