I have just installed (emerge) KDE 4.3.5, and have a bit of a problem. I click on the 'cashew' in the upper right corner of the screen and select 'zoom out'. The first time around I get a screen with my current desktop in the upper left quadrant with a menu over it. I cannot zoom in again. 'top' shows plasma getting 70% and X 30% cpu.
The three-finger salute gets me back to the command line. The next time I try, the menu box is there, but empty, and I cannot zoom in again.
In order to get KDE to work I need to replace ~/.kde4. Shotgun solution, I know, but I don't have the expertise to be more specific.
After lots of similar issues the response I got from several 'in-the-know' KDE people was that the whole zooming function was best left alone from the time being. They are experiencing loads of bugs with it (or were at the time anyway).
I never touched it again, and I don't think my KDE experience suffers from it.
Thanks. I was trying to assign a different activity to each of my 4 desktops, like I can on my desktop machine which has KDE 4.3.3. Perhaps I will wait a bit and try 4.4 which is supposed to be a bit more netbook-friendly.
I'm using 4.4.1 now, it's got a nice full-screen menu thing called 'Search & Launch Containment' or something like that, specifically for netbooks. V Nice!
