zoom usb adsl modem hangs mdk 9.2 when plugged in - can anyone help? Please?

I have a zoom adsl usb modem, a 5510, i can't really change to an ethernet one, but whenever i try and use it on my linux machine, it just hangs the whole system. This is quite annoying, 'cos i want to set up a linux server, firewall, etc., but i can't. If anyone has solved this problem, or knows how to, please tell me how you did it.
