Low Sound Output Level In Linux

Hi All,

I have some issues with sound under Linux, I'm not sure what the issue is, but I've tried all manner of things.

Sound works ok, but the volume is very low

lspci -v gives:

Code:
00:0e.1 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP55 High Definition Audio (rev a2)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device 81f6
Flags: bus master, 66MHz, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20
        Memory at fe020000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
        Capabilities: [50] Message Signalled Interrupts: Mask+ 64bit+ Queue=0/0 Enable-
        Capabilities: [6c] HyperTransport: MSI Mapping Enable+ Fixed+
Kernel driver in use: HDA Intel
        Kernel modules: snd-hda-intel
I have alsamixer up to max on both master and PCM and my amp has to be turned up nearly halfway before I get any decent volume.

I seem to remember having the same issue on my SB Live! card some years ago.

Anyone any thoughts, ideas, smart comments?

Joel

I recommend running 'alsaconf' that should set the volumes to good levels. Master and PCM should be near 100 % in most cases.

Have run that, no difference.

I don't have an asound.conf, but i'm not sure that helps. I just dont get the sme volume out of the card that windows gave me, which is weird.
