Hi folks, I'm having some trouble with the KDE desktop; its failure to refresh properly in certain conditions. For example, when I initiate a download in Firefox, to be saved to the Desktop, the file does not show up on the desktop upon completion. It can be found easily when browsing to the /home/blah/Desktop folder in Konqueror, but does not show up on the Desktop. Even right clicking, and doing Refresh Desktop does not make it show up. What does, however, is doing New File > Something, which I imagine forces kdesktop to look at the Desktop folder again and update the icon contents.

Essentially, it's not detecting new files in the Desktop directory.

I am unsure where the problem lies. My home folder, actually, is NTFS (thanks to the miracle of ntfs3g). I seem to recall this working properly when home is ext3, or so forth. Therefore, is the problem in ntfs3g, or perhaps fuse? I really do not know.

Building kdelibs with or without the fam USE flag has no effect.

inotify options are compiled into the kernel.

Thoughts on the matter would be appreciated! Thanks a lot.
