Insufficient protocol and script support in wifi popup

My apartment building has an open wifi service that occasionally requests the user to accept the terms of use. When accessing this network on Fedora 35, the requests is displayed in a minimal applet that fails to correctly perform the TLS handshake, and is also incapable of executing javascript in the wifi provider's portal page. This prevents me from accessing the wifi network.

The simplest workaround is top copy the URL out of the minimal applet and paste it in my browser, which is capable of TLS and javascript.

Is there a way to configure my desktop so that any network request of this kind is directed to the browser and not to some sketchy applet? It would be ideal to completely remove that applet from the system, since it effectively creates a denial of service attack on my desktop.

What applet? It must be something that you installed?
We need more info about this.
