Restarted AspireOne, now have an "Item not yet configured" icon/no popup menus/WIFI

Hello, All,

Yes, another newbie to Linux/Linpus here. I've searched the net with this question and found many others asking the same, oddly, NO ANSWERS. So am hoping you can help:

I have been using my aspire one for several months now. Yesterday I had to restart it via the power button as it had frozen. On reboot, there is now a gray box with a star shaped icon in it. Hovering over it, it says "New Item This Item has not yet been configured" and my popup menu bar has disappeared, my WIFI not working. I can work on the desktop, the panel is not affected. Right clicking brings up all the regular items, but wifi does not connect. The wifi light is on. Restarting anything does not help.

Again, shockingly, searching on this problem via google I found at least a dozen other people experiencing this, and NO helpful answers or follow ups. Am hoping someone here can pick up the gauntlet.

Thank you very much

Well, two weeks later and no one has picked up my gauntlet, so will answer my own question in case anyone else searches on the same thing: I used my restoration disc to return the Aspire One to its original settings, which solved the problem, although also, of course, wiped anything I had installed or saved onto the computer, which luckily was not a lot.... Created a USB recovery drive with the recovery DVD and another computer. All fine now. Not the best solution, given data loss, but still.
