Being a dude who runs a obscure one man distro for years,

When the redhat or Ubuntu name comes up. People tend to ignore corp board of directors. The Money Chest. The large user base who contributes.

Otherwise. Why all the " how to add ppa threads "

I like what I run. I expect no one to like my druthers. They are mine.

Better is subjective in sooooooooooooo many ways.

Definitely, "better" is very subjective. But I can live with that. When I first started this thread, I tried to qualify my metric of "better" by describing certain aspects or features or concerns I had -- ones that were important to me. And many people responded by qualifying their statements of their preferences around the aspects or criteria I said were important to me.

And it definitely helped. I feel that many comments on this thread have helped me to understand contextually why they like or don't like a certain distro...! So, I will have to try a few different distros. After all, my impression or reaction might be different than someone else's. Nevertheless, I have been able to create a short list of distros to try as a result of having given some concrete criteria for what I want.

So, once again I thank everyone who has contributed ideas here.
;-)
