Right, i installed my computer with Ubuntu. I recently tried Kubuntu in virtual machine, and i liked the Kde desktop, so i installed the Kde desktop onto my Ubuntu hard drive, so now have the choice of which Desktop environment to use. To connect to the Internet i use a portable Internet thumb stick. On Gnome, it was very simple to set this up. It detected it, and then proceeded to a set up process. In Kde, it detects it, but i don't seem to be able to set it up. Could someone help me out with this please.
NetworkManager Applet 0.8.1 on gnome, (that's the one that works) but on kde i'm using the alternative program that comes with it, and that's the one that i can't get to work.
I'm attempting to start the connection in Network management settings. When i plug the thumb drive in, a little icon pops up shaped like a mobile phone in the panel. Thant's where i'm looking. new to linux, and new to kde. I may be looking in the wrong place.
Ok guys noone was able to help me, and many other people on the internet seem to be having a similar problem. After many hours i have found a solution. Simply use the gnome network manager. If it's uninstalled, install it with (all these commands without quotations) "sudo apt-get install network-manager-gnome". . This is what i kept hearing on google but all this did nothing for me. If you are experiencing the same problem, then this is the step your missing. Uninstall the kde plasmoid network manager. (gnome network manager won't work while that one's running the show.) in the terminal, "sudo apt-get remove network-manager-kde plasma-widget-networkmanagement". This will remove the kde plasmoid network manager and the gnome one will reveal it's self in it's place, if it doesn't, then RUN a command "nm-applet". And that's how i got on the internet on KDE desktop with a mobile internet thumb drive.
