Red face failing to install jdk-6u22-linux-i586.bin

Hi every one. I am getting this message:
Unpacking...
Checksumming...
Extracting...
./jdk-6u22-linux-i586.bin: 113: ./install.sfx.1577: not found
Failed to extract the files. Please refer to the Troubleshooting section of
the Installation Instructions on the download page for more information.
when trying to execute jdk-6u22-linux-i586.bin in the terminal in ubuntu 10.04. I don't know how to continue to ensure the installation and I also don't understand why the message 113: ./install.sfx.1577: not found and what it means. Please help me know how I can understand this and fix it. Thank you.

There's no need to install it manually, since you can instal it directly from ubuntu's repositories. Simply open a terminal (under "Applications > Accesories") and execute:

Code:
sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk sun-java6-plugin
Regards.

Thanks for the reply. I tried out: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jdk sun-java6-plugin but i got the message below.
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Package sun-java6-jdk is not available, but is referred to by another package.
This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
is only available from another source
E: Package sun-java6-jdk has no installation candidate
How can I proceed?

Ok, then you're probably missing some repository. In the terminal execute sudo software-properties-gtk , then check the first two tabs of the window that will pop up and make sure that all the repositories there are enabled. After this, update the list of packages again (apt-get update), and proceed to install the jdk as I explained above in my first post. (By the way, there's a way to do all this directly from the GUI, but I don't remember if ubuntu 10.04 comes with synaptic preinstalled).

Regards.
