Error with VNC connecting to Ubuntu

I enable remote desktop sharing in Ubuntu and when I attempt to connect from VNC the follow error pops up after the password prompt:

setPF: not 8, 16 or 32 bpp?

What does this mean? And is there a workaround? I use VNC on a regular basis on RHEL/COS systems, but I've never seen this message before.

I think this means my VNC client doesn't support 24 bpp?
If so, anyone have a VNC client recommendation for Windows?

My Ubuntu desktop is installed under KVM, if that matters.
