Desktop will not fully load after install.

Anyone have any idea why when I load a fresh install of Fedora 14 on my system that the desktop doesn't load completely? It goes as far as giving me the desktop with a background, the icons and status bar do not appear. I am able to right click and open a konsle terminal but only when I am in KDE (failsafe)

What is weird is initially I had no problem. But when I switched to a different monitor the desktop would not load correctly. I have reinstalled the OS since then and still have the same issue. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Was there a message at startup?

I don't know if this helps but maybe.
This was related to desktop icons not showing up.

posting the errors in the logs would help
/var/log/
massages and xorg.0.log and boot.log ....

also the info on the 3d card ( or built in chip if it is a laptop)
laptop or desktop ?
There is a very big difference between the two.
and the driver you are using for it ( whatever "it"- the card is-)

for the xorg log did you read it
the (EE) is the errors -- if any

and THERE ARE NO errors in it
just a warning about "falling back" to the vesa driver
finding the radeon card and seting up the radeon card

--------------------------------
a question
when you installed fedora AND KDE
you ALSO left Gnome installed
fedora MUST have most of gnome installed even if you use KDE

so is this a FULL Gnome and KDE install
or just kde
if KDE only and Gnome is not installed there will be problems .

It's fixed. Thank you I appreciate the help. The issue was apparently gnome defaulted my monitor setup to have two monitors. I selected mirror image in both monitors and saved it and now everything is fine. Don't understand why it was setup for two monitors since i only have one. But the problem is fixed. Alt-F2 and switched the settings under monitors. Thanks again.
