Desktop icons disappeared

Running Precise Puppy 5.7.1 from USB stick on dell latitude laptop. Tuned laptop on and all desktop icons are gone. Can right click on screen and bring menu up. On bottom screen bar only shows menu, time, volume, Internet connection icons. Can anyone help me.
