Can't Make Xubuntu Write Hebrew

Hello.

I've installed Xubuntu 6.06 on a somewhat older machine (running Ubuntu on a newer one).

I can't get the keyboard indicator to change languages, with keys or mouse.

I've tried the solutions given at these URL's:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...xubuntu+hebrew
http://ubuntu.sabza.org/2006/10/13/x...yboard-layout/

They've had no effect at all, even though they seem to work for others. Hebrew support and fonts (including some TTF's) are in place. But I can't get Hebrew in AbiWord or OpenOffice.

Anyone know what to do?

Thanks

I don't use AW but in OO go to Options-->Languge Settings-->Languages and make sure you have enabled for Asian Languages and Enabled for CTL checked and put Hebrew in the CTL field under Default languages for documents. Then when you want to switch to right-to-left (Hebrew) hold down the ctrl key and right shift key (both at the same time). To switch back to English or other left-to-right language hold down ctrl key again and left shift key at the same time.

Whenever you add fonts in OO you have to use the admin script to let OO know about the fonts. When I copy winbloze fonts I run spadmin as root and click the printer icon (I know it doesn't have to do with printers!) and then you can tell him to make symlinks to the fonts.
