Sorry but my ESP is particularly low today. Since you haven't properly introduced yourself: what (relevant) certifications* do you hold already?

*) as far as they're worth anything, but maybe let's not get into that ;-p

Unless you were working three years as say VMware VIX scripter and got the larger picture the Chinese Room problem still applies (even though this strictly speaking is about AI). Do some research to find out who the top competitors are in Storage land and what they offer (though everyone seems to support some sort of "Unified Storage" stack these days) and ponder why you would want to commit to a job in such a specific part of the market. And unless you aren't bothered with shelling out cash without immediate ROI, for dipping your toes in the Linux pond I'd suggest learning as much as you can in your spare time, researching options in your current workplace (might be easier than getting a new job) and getting a job with a company that uses Linux and let them eventually pay for a RHSA.

If you study for a cert in whatever's hot today, then by the time you actually get said cert, the market will be oversaturated with people who had the exact same idea, and the laws of supply and demand will depress wages and job opportunities accordingly. Plus, there's a decent chance that what's hot today won't be hot in a year or two. I've been a professional Linux admin for over a decade, and I don't have a single cert to my name. I always advise people to build up solid skills and experience, then go for the certs if they feel that they need them.

May I cordially suggest that you should stop "drinking the certifications kool-aid."

Instead, start looking at your job-prospects from the buyer's (!!!) point-of-view.

The "certification kool-aid" game says that the world of IT is a world of Arkane Mysteries ... known to No Mortal (Wo)Man ... certainly not to your employer. That all you need to do is to Learn The Mysteries, paying thousands of dollars for a Certification to demonstrate that You are among the Initiated.

Get over it.

Fast.

Starting with your first day on the job, you will find yourself surrounded by people who know more about the subject of computing, from more different angles and with more nuances, than you ever dreamed it was possible to know. And, if you imagine that you are "in a knowledge competition" with any of those people ... if you imagine that such a thing is 'the point,' or even that it is valued ... then you have just smashed yourself in the foot.

Be humble. Be willing, above all else, to learn. Let other people speak of what you know, and of what you can do. "He who is faithful with little, will be faithful with much."
