User can't change default text size.

When running as a normal user, I can't change the default text size. If I choose it from the menu I get a "su" password gui and it changes the text size for the "root" user not the current regular user. Granted a user can change it "manually" if they know which file in the user dir. to change and the proper dpi number to use.

I don't know how common grafpup is, and don't know if you use the default windows manager or installed another one.

Take a look at your home directory with the "ls -lA ~/" command. Usually such user settings are contained in a hidden directory. You might consider temporarily adding another user. Then log in as that user. The only files present will be the skeleton files that are installed for each user. That will eliminate a lot of clutter.

Are you sure you are trying to change desktop settings? If it is asking for the root password, it sounds like you are changing global settings instead. Suppose that is not the case. By default font, they may mean the fontsize for the system (all users) rather than the font that your desktop uses. Try looking for a different setting as well.

One technique for looking for what config file is changed is to do so through the gui config program, and then use the "find" command to locate files changed in the last 5 minutes.

Good Luck! I hadn't heard about grafpup before, so I searched for it on the web, and am now downloading the torrent. I have Fedora 6 on an old Dell Latitude laptop. It is only a Pentium 3 grade laptop, so you can imagine how slow it is. ( I installed it to familiarize myself with Fedora. ) I might install grafpup on it. Maybe it will be more useful then.

I found this on Wikipedia:

Quote:
Configuration
Obconf, a GUI configuration editor for Openbox.

There are only two configuration files located in ~/.config/openbox. They are named menu.xml and rc.xml. If users do not want to edit them by hand, they can do most of the configuration with an easy-to-use tool called obconf. All mouse and keyboard bindings can be configured. For example, if a user wants a window to go to desktop 3 when the close button is clicked with the middle mouse button, the user can do this trivially. Scrolling on the icon to move to the next/previous desktop and raising or not raising when clicking/moving a window is fully configurable.
What you are looking for is probably in ~/.config/openbox/rc.xml. Being an xml file, you will need to locate the tag that you want to change. It may be trivial to come up with a sed oneliner to change the desktop default font size once you do that.

Gamfa -

I think you are referring to the utility which changes the X font sizes, correct? It would be in the menu something like "Change Global Font Size". That script is a holdover from Puppy and yes, I can see where the problem you are describing would come into play. I'll add a bug report to the tracker about it so I don't forget.

In the meantime realize that you can change the font used by all gtk applications with the gtk settings manager, and that should affect 90% of the applications in Grafpup, at least things like their menus and dialog boxes anyway. And since that script was written from scratch by myself I know it works for all users.

There is, unfortunately, no single place to go to change the fonts for everything. Fonts in Linux can be very chaotic in general.

Nathan
