XBOX 360 Controller Gentoo 2.6.32 - No joystick device

Clear up a few things - it is not working at all, controller is known good. It is not functioning as a mouse, or anything for that matter.

I can plug it in and it shows up on lsusb...
I have created the /dev/input/js0 node and that does not help, when I try to access it, I get device not found.
I have xpad compiled as a module at this time, I tried in-kernel too, all the same.

I am running kernel 2.6.32 - here is the conf...

I have yet to find a recent how-to / guide but I have been told the 360 controller is fully supported and I don't need any extra software.

I have no idea what might be going on...

Thanks!

What errors are you getting, what process are you going through to enable it, what does the device entry look like, how is it being created, etc. We need more information than you're giving us to have a shot at correcting the problem, post exact errors and steps you performed.

I configure the kernel, boot, modprobe the driver, connect the controller;

it is recognized per lsusb, after that nothing happens.

same steps above but before I plug it in; mknod /dev/input/js0 c 13 0

makes the node, then I plug it in... nothing happens

I can't cat the node - device not present. So obviously no apps or utilities can see it either.

I see a similar thread for ubuntu under 2.6.20, but it is unsolved or abandoned I guess.
