Install - network devices not detected

With an Acer Laptop, Aspire 5742Z.
'lspci' tells me the following about the network devices in the laptop:

Code:
01:00.0 Ethernet controller: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57780 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 01)
02:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM43225 802.11b/g/n (rev 01)
Neither of these devices get a module auto-loaded on boot, using the install-x86-minimal-20110426 ISO image to boot from.

I'm not certain if the required driver modules are available on the disk, and if they are which ones I have to load to get them working.

A little help please?

I am not sure about that, but since they are Broadcom devices I would assume that you need firmware for them, that is not included on the CD.

Well, looking up in detail for the specific drivers required suggests the use of the 'tg3' module, which is included - but loading it with modprobe does not show either interface, nor does loading them by specifying 'doload=tg3' when loading the livecd.

Search in /var/log/messages for the term firmware to see if it is an firmware issue.

Problem solved via Gentoo Forums. For the interest of others, solution is as follows:

As root:
Code:
# rmmod broadcom
#rmmod tg3
# update-modules
# modprobe broadcom
# modprobe tg3
# update-modules
The two update-modules are probably not necessary, but should ensure it works correctly. Also ignore any messages about modules not being loaded when running the 'rmmod' commands, but pay attention if they show up again when trying to load them with 'modprobe'.
